History
The Credit Union was organized for the union employees
of Cooper Tire & Rubber Company in Findlay, Ohio and their
wives, husbands, parents, dependent children residing in the same
household, and widows and widowers of members in good standing
at the time of their death. It was organized to provide financial
services to the workers and their families at a more reasonable
cost than the area banks were offering. It gave the Cooper union
employees a place they could borrow money by simply asking and
signing a loan note. It was also a place they could payroll deduct
a portion of their paycheck for the benefit of saving money.
When the Credit Union started in 1966, the original
name was Local 207 U.R.W. Employees Credit Union. On March 13,
1984 the name was changed to Millstream Area Credit Union to better
reflect the growing membership. The credit union had accepted
select employee groups (SEG’s) and most importantly the
salaried employees of Cooper Tire were now eligible to join. At
this point, the Board of Directors felt a more appropriate name
was needed in order for the credit union to market to the additional
select employee groups.
The name Millstream Area was derived by the Board
of Directors and it was to reflect the old song “Down by
the Old Millstream.” The composer of this song, Tell Taylor
(1866-1937), lived in the area and many businesses close to the
credit union have since adopted the word Millstream in their business
name.
The first shareholders meeting was held on April
25, 1966 with the charter members.
Below is a list of the charter members that were
instrumental in organizing Millstream Area Credit Union.

Millstream Area Credit Union has progressed through
several fields of membership expansions. It began in September
1977 when the credit union changed its Articles of Incorporation
to accept additional select employee groups (SEG’s). The
second SEG was added throughout the years. On February 27, 1991
the credit union again changed its Articles of Incorporation to
include any family member of an existing member as being eligible
to join.
On April 1, 1998 Millstream Area Credit Union merged
with and acquired the assets of a small credit union called Webster
Credit Union. Webster had approximately $463,817.00 in assets
and 283 members. Then on September 19, 2000 the Millstream Area
Credit Union received its Community Charter for Hancock County,
Ohio.
The present field of membership consists of employees
and family members of 28 SEG’s as well as any person and
his/her family member who lives, works, attends school or worships
in Hancock County Ohio.
