regardless of the communication avenue being utilized.
Hello:
Just a quick message to you from sunny Anaheim, California:
I have received numerous calls/emails about a recent deluge
of scam messages being sent to cell phones around the Columbus
area as both recorded messages and text messages. The caller/texter
tries to get citizens to provide their personal information
and/or account information to a number provided.
This
is a scam. All area financial institutions are being
requested to notify their customers of this and other types
of scams and to have the customers not respond to these messages.
Customers who have received these messages
can report the information directly to the FBI at
www.ic3.gov for investigation. Those who
fell for the scam and provided their personal information
should go immediately to the FTC's website at
www.ftc.gov/idtheft and follow the steps provided to minimize their losses and
help protect their good credit. Law enforcement is working
on shutting these scams down as fast as possible but the numbers
provided to citizens by the scammers are taken down very quickly
and replaced by new ones so it is a daunting task. Thanks
for getting the word out!
